I am Back!!!!

So sorry to go MIA!  Its been crazy with Leadership Weekend and Cheif and Princesses weekend here at kamp!  Whew!  Camp is coming.  Okay,

Salvation from the Penalty of Sin.  I would love for you to go back through your verses and write a statement of belief based on what you read.  Here are a few questions:

  • What always has to happen (in the Old Testament and New) for the penalty of your sin to be paid?
  • How is the passover symbolic of Salvation through Jesus?
  • Can you pay the penalty for your own sin?
See you tomorrow when we start verses on Salvation from the POWER of sin.  You can't experience this until the penalty has been paid.

Salvation from the Penalty of Sin

Today we are going to look at some verses that deal with salvation from the Penalty of Sin.  Next week we are going to look at Salvation from the Power of sin.  You can't experience salvation from sin's power over you until the penalty for your sin is paid for.

Salvation is the grace and mercy of God but its not just a "wand of leniency" that the Lord waves over you to make it happen.  All throughout the bible salvation could come only after a substitue has met the demands against the sinner.  Even though Jesus didn't show up until the New Testament, the Old Testament's laws were in place to do so and foreshadow what Christ would ultimately do.

We are going old Testament today:
  • Lev 4:20-21
  • Lev 4:26
  • Lev 19:22
  • Lev 1:4-5
  • Exodus 12
As you read these note who had to make atonement for a person.  What had to happen for that person?  What did they have to do?  Back when Isreal was in slavery to Egypt what kept the Isrealites from being killed?  In other words, what had to be on the doorway for the Lord to "Passover" and not judge their household?

Thats all for today

My timeline part 3  (these are my notes from the last topic, "How does man fit in the bible?"  Here is part 1 and part 2.
  • God uses Moses to deliver his people out of oppression.
  • God uses mankind (Isreal lead by Joshua) to help establish His Kingdom through Isreal.  It was God that judged and conquered the evil nations, but he used Godly men to accomplish His work
  • God had began a plan of salvation because man chose sin, He promised his people that they would be great it number, he delivered them out of slavery, and made them a mighty and prosperous kingdom...yet they still sinned and unfaithful.  God had to raise up judges to get His people out of their sinful ways and oppression.
I just always feel like God is having to make away for our sinful selves.  He is always offers a way out of the trouble we put ourselves in.

Salvation from Sin

Here is your reading for today:

Romans 3:23
Romans 6:23

My Timeline Part 2 (this is my comments and notes on how Mankind fits in the bible)

I missed something on my "Where Man fits in the Bible Timeline last week so here is where what I missed fits

  • Adam and Eve (notes from last Friday)
  • Noah and the Flood (notes from Last Friday)
  • Tower of Babel - Mans first corporate act of religion.  They were trying to reach God by building a tower to heaven.  That is exactly what religion is...man's attempts to reach God.  Guess, what...it doesn't work.  God had to intervene, confuse their languages, and spread them across the earth so they wouldn't do something like that again.  This is the origin of nations and different languages.
  • Abraham - (notes from last Friday)
  • Jacob/Isreal - (notes from last Friday)

My Timeline - Part 1

Okay, this post got really long fast so next week I will give you verses for our new topic and then keep posting my timeline.   Here is my timeline for how Mankind fits in the bible:

  • Adam and Eve sin and it ends mankind's ability to have fellowship with God.  God and sin don't mix.  Because we sinned  God set out his plan to save us.  (note: I was overwhelmed how much God has to step in for mankind throughout history.  We always do a good job of messing it up.  I am just thankful he has not give up on us!)
  • Noah and his family are the only ones in the world seeking after God.  In fact, the world is so evil that God floods the earth.  (Note: he could have been done with mankind for good.  We deserved it.  I am thankful he spared Noah and his family.  The cherry on top is that he spared the animals.  Man would have no way of surviving without them)
  • God extends his grace even farther by promising Abraham a multitude of offspring of his people and many nations.  Here we see the first group of people labeled as God's chosen people.  (note: Abraham and Noah were in the lineage of Adam so its safe to include them in that group as well as anyone else who followed God)  Again, God extending grace to mankind.
  • Jacob wrestles with God and gets his name changed.  Did you notice that the man he wrestled with was God.  It says it at the end of the chapter but only God can do what Jacob asked "bless me".  Also, only God can touch a man's hip and it be dislocated.  It would take alot more than a touch for someone else to dislocate a leg.  There is so much to learn from the passage and I don't want you to miss it.

  • Lessons Learned from Jacob wrestling with God.
    • Jacob should have been the one apologizing to his brother for stealing his inheritance but he was too much of a "scaredy cat" and sent lots of money with his slaves.
    •  Because he didn't do what God asked him to do, in other words, he didn't do what was right, he had to wrestle with God.  (sound familiar)
    • God told Jacob that he prevailed, but Jacob realizes (after he realizes the man was God) that he didn't really prevail.  In stead he says "I have seen God face to face and was spared"  God allowed him to prevail.  This was a big lesson to learn because God would soon allow Israel to prevail.  They would look like a mighty kingdom but it would have nothing to do with themselves.
    • God knew Jacob's name He asked Jacob to tell him who he believed to be.  God had a new answer for that question.  His name would now be Israel.
    • God gave Jacob something to remember his interaction with God....a limp.  Jacob, for the rest of his life would know who he was and what his purpose was.
See ya next week.

Is The Bible About Man?

This is your last reading before my post and a NEW Topic!!!!!  I am ending with a doosy so get ready.

Revelation 2 (and if you want extra credit read chapter 3)

Don't get too caught up in the imagry, before God tells about the events of the end times he has John dictate 7 letters to 7 churches that were present then.  The church was believers, period.  There was no First Baptist Branson and then 15,000 more denominations in one square block.  The church were the entire group of believers in that town.  Get a pencil and read how God encourages and rebukes some of the churches.  I know you dont know the details but you can tell what the churches are dealing with good and bad.  What are they?  Do modern day churches have some of these strengths and weaknesses?  What does it look like today?  I tell you what, I want to be in a church like Philadelphia (Rev. 2) and not Laodicea.

Finally,
Revelation Chapter 19 and 22!
