Is the Bible About Man?

Are you still with me on this quick zip through the history of mankind?  Yesterday we left off with King Solomon.  I am going to push your forward on the timeline a little.  Solomon's son took over the kingdom and the Kingdom of Israel divided into two different Kingdoms.

  • The Northern Kingdom:  10 of the twelve tribes settled with their capital being Samaria...not Jerusalem.  This kingdom was lead by many kings...all evil in the sight of the Lord.   Since they were not near the temple they formed their own worship and it turned into idol worshipping.  The Northern Kingdom was taken into captivity by Assyria and never returned as a kingdom.
  • The Southern Kingdom:  2 of the 12 tribes of Israel stayed keeping Jerusalem as the capital.  This Kingdom had good and bad Kings but the line of David (through the tribe of Judah) stayed intact because it was the line of Jesus.  The Southern Kingdom was taken into captivity by Babylon years after the Northern Kingdom was taken.  Babylon had defeated Assyria (who had earlier defeated the Northern Kingdom) and then Babylon took over the Southern Kingdom.
World History continued always carrying Israel with the changes.  Babylon was defeated by Persia and the world empire changed hands once again.  Israel (the Southern Kingdom) had been in captivity for 70 years and that is about to end:

Read:  Ezra Chapter 1

Take note what God does here.  Who lets the Jews go back?  Do you think he served God?  Do you see God's sovereignty here?

That's enough for today.  Add to your timeline and then think about the question in the post title.  What does the bible have to do with man?
