My Belief Statement - The Bible Is the Word of God

Before you read my belief statements below I want you to go back through your verses and write out what you believe about the Bible so far.  This is important because you want to put beliefs to what you read.  Could you imagine if you had this for every topic of the bible?  You could always remind yourself what you believe.  Once you have made your list, answer these questions in summation:

  1. Do you believe the bible is the Word of God?
  2. Do you believe that the bible is the only book/ source for the word of God?
  3. Do you believe what the bible says is true?
  4. Do you believe that there is any mistakes or errors in the bible?
  5. Is there a verse that stuck out to you the most?

Don't you dare read mine first.  I want scripture to determine your beliefs..not my own.  After reading mine, if something stuck out to you that I didn't list please feel free to comment it, but make sure you put the verse to it.

I Believe The Bible Is.... (based on these verses, these verses, these verses, and these verses)
  • Commandments of God
  • Statutes of God (His conditions/ordinances)
  • Testimony of God (witness to who He is)
  • Tested (proved to be true)
  • The Law of the Lord

  • Pure Words
  • Perfect
  • Restores the Soul
  • Sure testimony -it is as it says.

  • the "How to" keep your life pure
  • the earth stands because of it

  • will not return empty
  • accomplishes what God desires
  • always succeeds for which He sent it
  • Like a fire
  • Like a hammer that shatters a rock
  • inscribed truth
  • Jesus fulfills the bible
  • every word, stroke, letter will happen.

  • The word of God not men
  • needs to be accurately handled

  • imperishable

  • enduring
My answers to the above questions:
  1. I believe that the Bible is only the words of God not men.  I believe God used men to physically pen His words, but they are not men's words.
  2. I believe the bible is the only book to be perfect, pure, fair and tested and therefore the only source of truth.  Any truth man speaks comes from the bible.
  3. If the bible is perfect then I believe all things in it to be true whether I understand them or not.  I have also personally put the bible to the test in my own life and its words have shown to be true in my own life as well.  (Its the only thing that has truly shown me hope, direction, lasting purpose and peace)
  4. I believe that the bible is without error.  If they are God's words then they are perfect.  It claims to be perfect and so far in history and in personal experience everything has come to pass as claimed.  If I ever find what I believe to be an error I believe its either because of my lack of study and understanding or simply due to my sinful nature and inability to see things as God intended.  I believe if you seek it out you will find that what you thought an error is really just another truth to be understood.
  5. Jeremiah 23:29 reminded me that God's word is powerful enough to shatter the hardest of hearts and will consume (like a fire) the things that are temporary.   Isaiah 55:11 reminded me that I can have hope that God's Word will accomplish what He set out for it to do.  It also reminds me that I can go my own way if I want, but God's going to do His thing... with or without me.  He would prefer with me and so would I :)  Psalm 119 is a good reminder that the earth stands because of God's word....enough said for me.

Isn't it amazing how 5 verses 10-15  minutes a day can teach you so much?  It also gives you so much discussion in a discipleship group or biblestudy.    Stick with me, because next week we are all going to find out what we believe the Bible's Subject and Purpose is.
